#Varanasi Junction History
In December 1862 George Turnbull was a British engineer responsible for the construction of the first railway line from Calcutta to Benares (VARANASI), some 600 miles – later extended to Delhi. Turnbull was selected by the Indian government as the "first railway engineer of India.
the Oudh & Rohilkhand Railway Company opened the line from Banaras to Lucknow.
The present building of the station was built while Kamlapati Tripathi was Rail Minister (1975–77).
